Coaching Education for Spring 2018

Hi, there! We are less than a month away from our spring season! We’ve been busy bees here in the office getting everything ready for more great soccer games. Read on for the latest info!

We recently held our seasonal coaches meetings. We got to meet and see so many new volunteers who have stepped up to lead their children’s teams. We appreciate you and are excited to see what the season holds for you and your teams. Here’s a snapshot of our Thursday night meeting:

Special thanks to Cicis Pizza for feeding the coaches at our Thursday meeting. Did you know they recently moved? They are now conveniently located near Walmart at 2435 West Kenosha Avenue. Take your family and team out for a night full of yummy food and fun at Cicis, and let them know BASC sent you!

If you’re a coach who wasn’t able to attend one of the meetings, please click here to view the presentation. It’s mandatory for all coaches to be up-to-date on what was missed at the meeting, so be sure to check out the info.

We also have some great coach education opportunities coming up throughout the month! BASC’s head coach, Rick Heineman, will be teaching a free Youth Coaching Module on February 17th. This course is mandatory for all new coaches and highly recommended for those returning.

We will also be hosting US Soccer’s brand new Grassroots Licensing Courses on February 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The Grassroots courses are $35, but BASC will reimburse our coaches who provide us with their certificate of completion! Just email it to to receive the reimbursement.

You can find more information about these courses and find where to register by visiting

Our head coach is also interested in starting some Sunday afternoon training sessions for coaches who want to learn about a variety of new topics. If you have a topic you’d like to learn more about, or if you would like to lead a session, please email Rick at

As a reminder, all coaches must register for the season, pass a background check, complete online CDC concussion training, and upload a photo to their coach accounts in order to be fully registered and cleared for the season. Please check out BASC’s Coaches Corner for instructions and links to complete these things. Coaches who do not complete those things will be removed from their team accounts and will not be allowed on the field with their teams until these things are completed. All coaches who haven’t previously completed CDC concussion training have until February 20th to complete the course.

That’s all for this week! We appreciate all of our coaches and managers who take the time out of their busy schedules to volunteer for our club. Thanks a million!

Soccer Fun in 2018 – Spring Season, Coaches, and ISSC

Hey, soccer fans! It’s 2018, and BASC has been busy preparing for a great new year of soccer. Our spring season is coming up quick, and we have a lot happening to prepare for it!

We’re currently in late registration for the spring season. If you missed our deadline, don’t fret! You can still register to play this season. Whether you’re a new player or returning to our club, you can get all the info you need and complete registration at

Coaches play a vital role in making BASC a successful youth sports club; we couldn’t thrive without these talented volunteers! About a month before each season begins, we host mandatory coaches meetings so our coaches can receive their preliminary rosters, meet our club’s head coach, and gather important information for the season.

If you’re one of our coaches, please plan to attend one of our meetings. We have two nights – Thursday, February 1st or Friday, February 2nd – for you to choose from. You only have to attend one. It’s a good time to prepare for the new season and to meet some other coaches!

People attending our Thursday meeting will get to dine on some yummy pizza, courtesy of CiCis. Each meeting begins at 6:30 PM at BASC’s banquet room, located at 1001 South Main Street.

If you have questions about the meetings, please email Rick Heineman, BASC’s Head Coach, at

Our soccer complex is getting a bit of a makeover, too. The City of Broken Arrow is in the process of a months-long construction project at Indian Springs. This project will provide new irrigation and fences on the east side of the park. The project will be complete before our March 3rd season opener, so we’ll begin our season with a new-and-improved complex!

That’s all for this week. I’ll leave you with a question to ponder: What is your soccer resolution for 2018? Mine is snapping some awesome pictures of our games at ISSC! If sharing pictures is your thing, share yours with us on social media using #BASCgames.

Here’s to a happy 2018 full of fun soccer memories!

Tourney Time + Other Soccer Fun!

Hey, soccer fans!  Emily here.  We’re about halfway through the fall season, and there are TONS of cool things going on at our club.  In this blog, I’ll tell you all about our upcoming tournaments (there are two!), spring registration, and a few memories made so far this season.

First of all…  IT’S ALMOST TOURNEY TIME!  BASC has two awesome tournaments coming up in less than a month.  The first one is Tulsa Open!  Our competitive division, TSC Hurricane, also has a tournament November 17th through 19th, which is the Tulsa Friendship Cup and the Adidas Sam Shannon Showcase.

Tulsa Open Logo - Gray Geo

The Tulsa Open tournament is October’s premier competitive tournament, and we’re proud to announce this is BASC’s inaugural year of this tourney!  BASC has hosted many competitive tournaments over the years and we’re excited to add Tulsa Open to our club.  It will be held at Indian Springs Soccer Complex on October 27th, 28th, and 29th with each team playing at least three games.  We have teams from Oklahoma and multiple other states signed up for Tulsa Open, so we’re looking forward to all of this soccer fun!

Something extra special about Tulsa Open is that a portion of proceeds will benefit the Tulsa chapter of Susan G. Komen.  So, this tournament isn’t just about playing.  It’s about giving back to our community and being part of a greater cause.  And while this is a competitive event, recreational teams looking for more competition are welcome to play!

Registration for Tulsa Open closes on October 17th, so hurry and get registered before it’s too late!  You can register and learn more at

Another great tourney coming up is our 36th Annual Fall Recreational Tournament!  This will be November 10th through 12th at Indian Springs Soccer Complex.  All recreational teams ages U6 to U19 are invited to this tournament, so be sure to register before the October 31st deadline.  There are some fun new things going on to get kids excited about this tournament, like Flat Finley!

Flat Finley web rotator

So, who’s Flat Finley?  He’s our new friend here at BASC!  Flat Finley likes to watch BASC tournaments, especially the Fall Rec Tournament!  😉  Flat Finley is an interactive way to have some extra fun at soccer games, tournaments, and around different places in Broken Arrow.

Basically, you just print and cut out Flat Finley and take pictures of him (or take selfies with him!) at different places.  Instructions are available here.  We have a full-color version you can print by clicking here, or you can click here to print a coloring page.  It’s a fun way to share memories this season.  Get creative with your pictures and share them on social media using #BASCtourney.  We can’t wait to see where Flat Finley goes!

Spring 2018 Registration

Among all of the tournament prep, we’re also preparing for spring registration!  Players can sign up for the spring season THIS WEEK!  Registration officially begins at on Friday, October 13th.

As you may know, there are several benefits for signing up early.  If your player is registered before the deadline, you’ll remain with the same team, you’ll avoid late fees, AND you’ll be ahead of the game.  Don’t worry; there’s plenty of time before the deadline!  Spring registration ends on January 13th.

And finally, here are just some of the great pictures we’ve received from soccer fans throughout the season.  Remember, you can always share more memories with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter by tagging us or using #BASCgames.  See you all on the pitch!

A New Face & Program at BASC – Get Excited for Genesis Football!

FB_IMG_1501783792297-1Hey, soccer fans!  I’m Emily Tull, the new office coordinator at Broken Arrow Soccer Club.  I’m so excited to be part of BASC and dive right into the world of youth soccer!  A little bit about me: I’m a 2013 graduate of Rogers State University with a background in communications and graphic design.  I live in Tulsa with my husband, Chris, and I enjoy going to concerts, binging Netflix and YouTube, and learning Japanese.  (こんにちは!)  If we haven’t already met, I look forward to meeting you soon!

Enough about me – we have some AWESOME new things going on at BASC!  One of these things is the introduction of GENESIS FOOTBALL, a recreational program for U7 to U10 players led by our president, Jason Dobbins.  The purpose of Genesis is to provide recreational players the opportunity to train and play with others with similar skills and abilities without the limitations of traditional recreational team formation rules.

Genesis FB profile

Genesis is not a replacement for the BASC Closed Recreational League or the Recreational Select League; it is a supplemental, recreational program intended to enhance the player experience and provide a more well-rounded education.

Genesis is a little bit different than typical recreational soccer.  Genesis doesn’t have formal teams, and there is no league to play in.  Instead, players are trained in a pool or festival environment, so all players train together.  Games consist of scrimmages at the end of each training session, friendly matches with other Genesis or Closed League teams, and other entities in the Tulsa area.

Genesis Football’s goal is greater than winning games.  We want to train young players in a manner which facilitates their future success in soccer – at any level.  Lessons about sportsmanship, respect for the game, respect for officials, honesty, perseverance, integrity, and a desire to compete are important areas Genesis will cover to help your child grow in the sport.

There is SO much going on with this new program, and we are thrilled to introduce it this season!  You should join us at the Genesis Town Hall Meeting on August 15th at 6:00 PM to meet the director and learn more about how Genesis would be a great fit for your child.  You can also follow along and join our Facebook group at and register at  We hope your child will soon be playing with Broken Arrow Soccer Club AND Genesis Football!

Is Your Athlete Ready To Play?

Get in the game 3

Two important things to get your player started with fall soccer & the benefits of staying and playing in youth sports (especially soccer!)

  1. Register for the BASC fall soccer league.
  2. Register for the BASC fall conditioning camp.

Being involved in athletic experiences isn’t just about winning or losing,” says Dr. Joel Fish, Director of the Center of Sports Psychology, and author of 101 Ways to Be a Terrific Sports Parent: Making Athletics a Positive Experience for Your Child. “It’s about more important things like effort, skill-building and team participation.”

Part of being an athlete is learning how to persist through difficult tasks, especially when the going gets tough. “Sports helps kids learn techniques to deal with great pressure,” explains Fish.

Being part of a sports team helps kids develop crucial social skills. Whether they are listening to other people’s perspectives or placing the needs of the team before their own, young athletes are taught that, for a team to effectively work together, all members must respect each other’s abilities, contributions, and opinions.

There are valuable life lessons in playing team sports!  Sign your player up today to begin their new sports experience!  Register HERE!
